Biography of Robert Reich
Ambassador of Switzerland to the Kingdom of Sweden
Born in 1950 and a native from Wildhaus/SG, Mr Robert Reich passed his school leaving examination at the German High School in Stockholm in 1969 and graduated in economics from the University of St.Gallen in 1973. In 1975, he entered the Diplomatic Service of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and completed his diplomatic training in Bern and London. Returning to Bern in 1977, he was assigned to the Economical and Financial Service. In 1979, he was transferred to the Embassy in Moscow, with the position of Secretary. In 1981 he became Deputy Head of Mission in Lisbon. From 1984 until 1989 he was Deputy Head of the Human Resources Section at the headquarters in Bern. From 1989 on, he served for four years as Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission in Buenos Aires. In 1993, he was assigned to the Embassy in London, where he held the position of Minister and Deputy Head of Mission. From 2001 to 2005, Mr Reich served as Ambassador in Ecuador and since 1 February 2006, he holds the same function in the Kingdom of Sweden. M. Robert Reich is married to Mrs Barbara Reich, with whom he has a son born in 1985.
